DAL’S FOCUS AREAS IN MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY ARE:

BROADBAND future

We work with companies to increase broadband connectivity, focusing on areas with more potential for sustainable and inclusive development impact.

  • Core elements of wholesale broadband infrastructure, such as national and regional backbones, backhaul networks, and urban rings. These are generally fiber optic networks, which deliver greater capacity and better service quality than wireless networks. Occasionally we also invest in alternative solutions such as satellite or microwave backhaul, which are more efficient to reach small island communities or remote rural areas, for example. DAL supports “open access” backbone networks, which accommodate all types of providers, thereby promoting competition and better telecommunications and Internet services.

INFRASTRUCTURE development

We support telecoms infrastructure sharing as a way to reduce companies’ costs, create stronger competition, and minimize environmental impact.

As margins decline across all telecommunications sectors, due to increased competition, optimization of resources becomes crucial for companies’ growth. Sharing telecommunications infrastructure is an efficient way to reduce costs. Companies can then invest freed up resources in expansion to new areas, servicing new customers, and adopting technological advancements. This ultimately leads to better quality and affordability of services.

Infrastructure sharing also creates stronger competition, and contributes to reducing the environmental footprint.

MOBILE world

DAL helps mobile operators expand networks and upgrade services to reach all areas and population groups, especially in challenging environments.

The mobile industry drives innovation and takes critical services such as health care, education, and disaster recovery to underserved, remote areas. It also enhances the delivery of services provided by other industries.

The large proportion of the population still uncovered by mobile networks is predominantly rural, with low income and high level of illiteracy. Mobile operators as well as governments and regulators all have a critical role to play in addressing these barriers and improving the reach and affordability of mobile services.

FINTECHnology

DAL supports the development of new technologies that contribute to greater access to financial services.
